BMS Student Shares Comic with Sitka

Posted

Thirteen-year-old Blatchley Middle School student Harrison M. Mayasich is sharing comics with the Sentinel, drawn from his experiences in daily life.

The comic strip called "What The?" captures the unpredictability that comes with being a middle schooler in 2026. It will run on the Sentinel features page on Tuesdays.

Mayasich described his comic humor as random and opportunistic.

"I started drawing comics when my dad told a funny story, and I wanted to draw it out," Mayasich, an eighth grader, told the Sentinel in an email.

"Then I made another," Mayasich recalled. "Pretty soon the comics kept coming. It was -- and is -- all for fun."

Mayasich said he named his Sentinel comic strip What The? because "it fits every comic" including the "completely random and/or chaotic."

"The most exciting part of sharing my comics with others is seeing their reactions," Mayasich said.

He said his favorite comic strips are Garfield and The Far Side.

Mayasich's parents, Cameron and Tiffany Mayasich, characterized the artist as "a great kid" who "is always eager to learn new things and stays busy with school, swimming, working toward his Eagle Scout rank and reading."

"We are excited for him to share his work with Sitka," his mother said. "If you ever run into him around town, be sure to ask him what the element of the day is."
