Brave Heart Bowls

Posted

Dear Editor: On behalf of Brave Heart Volunteers, thank you, Sitka.

The turnout was a genuine reflection of what makes this community so remarkable. Sitkans came together not just to enjoy a bowl of soup and take home a piece of handcrafted art, but to stand alongside their neighbors in supporting compassionate care for those facing serious illness, grief, and end of life. That kind of generosity means everything to us.

We are so grateful to the ceramic artists who created the stunning bowls, to the local restaurants and businesses who donated the soup and bread, and to our incredible volunteers who made the day run with such care and grace. A special thank you goes to the University of Alaska Southeast, whose ceramics studio and equipment made most of our bowls possible and who receive 10 percent of proceeds in recognition of their ongoing partnership with us.

This year, our community raised over $20,000. The funds will go directly toward our free companionship, respite care, and grief support services here in Sitka, ensuring no one faces life's hardest moments alone.

If you missed the event and would still like to take home a bowl, we will have remaining bowls available for purchase at one of the upcoming winter markets. Stay tuned for details.

If you have been thinking about volunteering, we would love to hear from you at 907 747-4600 or braveheartvolunteers.org. And we hope to see you again on Sept. 12 at our Buoys and Art Gala.

With deep gratitude,

Brave Heart Volunteers
