Set June 28

A celebration of the life of Bud Niesen will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the Elks Lodge.

Those attending may take finger food to share.

Bud, a longtime Sitka resident, died  June 11 at SEARHC-Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. He was 74.

Earl James Niesen was born Dec. 2, 1940, in Britton, S.D., the son of Joe and Miriam Niesen. His family farmed, and lived in Washington and South Dakota.

After graduating from Kidder High School in Kidder, S.D.,  he joined the U.S. Army, and served in Korea.

In 1964, Bud moved to Sitka, and  worked for Alaska Pulp Co. He remained here until his death.

Bud loved to hunt and fish with his buddies, enjoyed Nascar, basketball and other sports, and loved his family and many friends.

Bud was a great friend to many people, many of them he called family.

He had a great heart, and will be greatly missed.

Bud is survived by his sisters, Celia Good and Gay Patterson, and his brother, Joe Niesen.

Those needing more information may contact his sister Gay at (541) 707-0085.
