Byron Baty Sr.

Services have been scheduled for Byron Francis Baty Sr., a 35-year resident of Sitka, who died of cancer June 8 in Issaquah, Wash. He was 74.

Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Sitka National Cemetery. The U.S. Coast Guard will provide honors.

Afterward, friends will gather for a dinner 4-6 p.m. at the Channel Club. Those attending are asked to RSVP to Byron’s daughter, Lisa Baty, at (425) 864-5305, or lisacbaty@aol.com.

Byron and his twin brother Joseph were born on October 3, 1940, in San Francisco, Calif., to Byron Ordell and Elizabeth Preston Baty.

He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard on Aug. 1, 1983, after 25 years of service.

He is survived by his son Byron F. Baty Jr. of Shelton, Wash.; his daughter Elizabeth C. Baty and spouse Janet Sailer of North Bend, Wash.; his son Robert M. Baty and wife Ramona of Yakutat, Alaska; and his son Christopher T. Baty of Seattle, Wash.

He also is survived by his brother Joseph W. Baty and wife Kathy of Valencia, Calif.; his sister Beverly Nord and husband Lynn of Cottage Grove, Ore.; his aunt Pauline Baty of Torrance, Calif.; and his cousin, Belinda Belisle.

He will also be missed by his granddaughter KaJena Baty and husband Gabriel Pfeiffer of Fairbanks; his grandson Justin M. Baty and wife Vicy and their son – Byron’s great-grandson – Maximus Baty all of Silverdale, Wash.; niece Brigid Baty of Chattsworth, Calif.; niece Brenda Baty of Palmdale, Calif.; and niece Carol Gavin and husband Jim of Canyon Country, Calif.,  and their sons: Sean, Cody, Blake and Wyatt; nephew William Clements  of Roseburg, Ore., and his children Kyle and Elizabeth; and niece Keri Paulo and her son Kaleb.
