BULLETIN -- Kevin Mosher was elected mayor in Tuesday’s municipal election with more than 58% of the vote, over his two opponents. In the race for two Assembly seats, incumbent JJ Carlson and Sherri Blankenship were the top vote-getters. In the school board race, three candidates were elected to three open seats. The proposed Charter amendment on the ballot, Ballot Prop. 1, failed.
Results for Precincts 1 and 2, and the count of ballots cast in early voting were posted shortly after the polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday. With 65 absentee ballots still to be counted at 2 p.m. Friday, the results are as follows:
In the mayor’s race, Mosher received 1,068, followed by Thor Christianson with 495, and Lisa Lane with 263.
Carlson had the most votes for Assembly with 1,117, followed by Blankenship with 1,111, and Darrell Windsor with 1,022. The official write-in candidate, Mary Ann Hall, received 22 votes.
In the School Board race, Kat Richards received 1,445 votes, Phil Burdick 1,441, and Matt Potter 1,308. The top two vote-getters will serve for three years, and the third will serve a one-year term created by a vacancy.
Ballot Prop. 1, a proposed charter amendment, failed 981 to 800. The ballot question asked whether voters wanted to removed a provision in the municipal charter that requires the city to have a special election on an initiative petition in certain situations.
The election results are unofficial until they are certified by the Assembly, which next meets Oct. 13.
Mosher still has one year left on his Assembly term. Under the Home Rule Charter the Assembly must appoint a qualified person within 20 days after Mosher vacates his seat. The appointee serves until the next regular election.
The Sentinel will have a story on the election results in Wednesday’s edition of the Sentinel.
