Coming Up This Weekend in Sitka

By Sentinel Staff
Local sports teams will compete both in Sitka and out of town this weekend.
Varsity volleyball from Sitka High and Mt. Edgecumbe High are headed to Anchorage Friday to compete in a tournament at Grace Christian High.
This tournament serves as a mid-season litmus test for teams, and provides information regarding how well they stack up against competition from around the state.
Volleyball junior varsity teams will head to Juneau to play in a tournament there.
The Baranof Barracudas Swim Club has its October Splash at the Blatchley pool Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The events are open to the public and free to attend. On Friday, warm-ups begin at 4 p.m. and events start at 5:30 p.m. Warm-ups Saturday and Sunday start at 7:45 a.m., with races starting at 9 a.m.
Also in the pool, the Sitka High swim team is headed to Bartlett High School in Anchorage for an invitational meet.
The Wolves have a remarkably fast team this year, and much like the volleyball teams this weekend, this meet will be a proving ground and give indications of what to expect in the regional and state meets.
With swimming and volleyball seasons in full swing, the tournaments and meets this weekend promise to show local teams how they measure up against the competition.
