Dear Editor: The dark season is here, and while we appreciate the efforts put forth by the city public works and the electric departments, I’d like to initiate a campaign to improve the visibility in our streets, to make them safer for drivers as well as for pedestrians. Here are a few suggestions:
1) Street lights need to be checked regularly, in order to put the ones that stopped working back to work. Some residential areas barely have street lights and deserve some consideration.
2) Install reflective signs/ markers in every corner of every public street, and make the reflective signs/ stickers/posts available and affordable to people to use around their properties and driveways.
3) Consider reflective pavements markings.
4) Re-visit the street markings with fresh reflective painting to ensure their high visibility, especially for crosswalks, lanes, and intersections.
I trust that we all can join hands with the public work/electric departments in making our city streets brighter and safer. Thank you.
