David Lee Miller
David Lee Miller, a Sitka resident for the past 10 years, died Dec. 8 in Anchorage, at the age of 73.
He was born Sept. 7, 1949, in Aberdeen, Washington, the son of Lucille (Jensen) and Sylvan Miller.
David “was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back,” his family wrote. “He liked to feel needed – he loved to help others, and to give.”
He was always telling jokes and being funny, they said. He liked socializing at the local clubs and pubs, “drinking beer and chasing women and unfortunately catching one once in awhile – ha!” they wrote.
“He lived a very adventurous, full life,” they said. “He loved us very much and we’re going to miss him.”
David was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Sylvan Miller; his brother Donald Miller; and his sisters, Donna Miller and Patty Hammell.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Sassy) Hill, his son-in-law Jon Hill, his granddaughter Emily Gail Hill, and his grandson, David Lee Hill, all of Sitka.
His family is inviting friends to the Elks Lodge 3-6 p.m. on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, to “have a grilled burger and enjoy some laughs.”
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Sitka Elks Lodge 1662, Sitka Moose Lodge 1350, or Sitka American Legion Post 13 – “or just simply tip your server or bartender.”
