World AIDS Day

Dear Editor: We would like to thank all of you who joined us at the Pioneers Home Manager’s House for the RESULTS-sponsored World AIDS Day event on Saturday. If you missed our event, you can still take action and join the lobbying effort in support of the Global Fund. The RESULTS website has all political contacts pre-loaded on their website. To send your emails to members of our congressional delegation, go to www.results.org, click “Take Action” (global), scroll down to: The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Saves Millions, and follow the easy steps.
For those interested in the local RESULTS group actions, please call Michele 752-0472

Sitka Too Expensive

Dear Editor: What is wrong with the lawmakers of Sitka?
With all the new laws such as raising property taxes, moorage and no sales tax for seniors.
The boat owners are selling their boats and leaving town or leaving them to sink at the dock.
Sitka is about to get a rude awakening call. They’re about to lose their fishing fleet. Eight boats have already left and many more will be left at the dock with no one to care for them.
Everyday we are losing more and more families from Sitka. High rent and utilities and cost-of-living here is way too high. Our cost of groceries and rent is the highest in Alaska.
That’s really something to be proud of, huh?
Rev. Joyce Chandler, Sitka
