ANB Founders Hall
Dear Editor: As the president of Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 1, I would like to send a positive note out to the community. You may have noticed that there has been a lot of activity down at the ANB Founders Hall lately. We have just recently hosted a Veterans Day dinner, community Thanksgiving dinner and several community meeting happenings at the ANB Founders Hall.
I would first like to thank all the volunteers for all the help they gave with the setup, cleanup and all the planning that happens before each event. Without you the community would not have had such a wonderful time.
Thank you, Rachel, and your group of volunteers, who are too many to list here at this time. Also, you may have also noticed that there have been several renovations to the ANB Founders Hall and we are looking forward to the building being open and available to the community.
There are a few people who I would like to thank publicly for the renovation at the hall: Kerry MacLane, who was praised by our grantors for doing a great job for doing record keeping and keeping the project online; Sen. Bert Stedman; the Alaska Department of Commerce; the Rasmuson Foundation; Sealaska Heritage Foundation; Kaagwaantaan Inc.; and last, but not least, the brothers and sisters of ANB-ANS. Without you we would not be able to keep the lights or heat on and the doors open to the community.
If you have any questions about the ANB Founders Hall or would like to support it, feel free to call me at 738-5507 or the Camp Treasurer Andy Roberts at 738-0741. Yours in brotherhood.
Wilbur Brown,
ANB Camp 1 President
Suspicious Activity
Dear Editor: On the evening before Thanksgiving, I was sitting at home in the dark watching television when a couple of individuals parked their truck in our driveway. Their engine was running and high beam headlights were on. One of the individuals came to our front door on the second story and knocked softly three times. When that person realized I was home, they hurried back to the truck and took off. The police were notified and patrolled the neighborhood for suspicious activity, but nothing appeared out of place.
Just a reminder, again, that these burglars target unlocked doors, dark houses, and unlocked vehicles. Please stay alert.

Card of Thanks
Dear Editor: One of the most beautiful things about our community is how folks take care of one another, especially during the tough times.
During the time of Lois’ illness and her recent passing, our family was continually supported by a constant outpouring of help and prayers from friends and neighbors. The kindnesses extended are entirely too numerous to name each individually. Lois and the family received many cards and personal visits, phone calls and hugs, beautiful flowers, prayers for strength and incredible offerings of food to keep us going.
Losing a loved one is never easy, but the generosity and love we received every day made our loss just a bit easier to bear. To each and every one of you who reached out to us in any way, small or large, please accept our heartfelt thanks and appreciation.
We would like to specifically thank the Southeast Alaska Independent Living staff, and Tyler Petraborg at Harry Race’s Home Medical Equipment for their valuable help getting what we needed to care for Lois at home.
Thanks also to the incredible staff and nurses at Sitka Community Hospital’s Home Health Agency ably supported by Dr. Robert Hunter and the staff at the Sitka Medical Center. Without their support, assistance and their willingness to answer endless questions, our family could not have kept Lois at home comfortably.
We also appreciated Trudy and the staff at Prewitt’s Funeral Home for their advice and the gentle care provided during one of our most difficult days.
Finally, we’d like to acknowledge the assistance of several folks who made Lois’ last days and her memorial service special. Thanks go out to St. Gregory’s Catholic Church: Father Andy, Father Gorges, Angie, Tonya, Pam, Christy, Hannah, Kay and Curtis, the choir and each and everyone who brought food to share; to the Pioneers of Alaska: Leigh, Linda and Marilyn; and to Eric Morrow at the Sitka National Cemetery who quietly and capably cares for our veterans and their spouses’ final resting place.
The generosity and caring of our community is a remarkable thing. We will never forget the outpouring of love shared on Lois’ behalf.
Peace be with you all!
Mike Perensovich and family
