Dear Editor: The Sitka Community Development Corporation sold raffle tickets for a playhouse this fall and are pleased to announce that William E. Davis and Nancy Yaw Davis have won the SCDC playhouse!
The money received will be used to continue the support of the Sitka Community Land Trust Program for permanently affordable housing. Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets and James Poulson and Mark Guillory for making the playhouse. Thanks also to Kathy Dumag, manager at Spenard Builders Supply, and Judi Lehmann, for materials, and Arrowhead Press for printing the tickets.
Thanks to the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce for letting us do this raffle using their state permit. Thanks to KCAW for public service announcements, and to Buzz Brown for the lengthy loan of his trailer. Thanks to Sea Mart for letting us sell tickets there. And thanks for all the great conversations at Sea Mart, the Sitka Counseling Christmas Bazaar and the Sitka Artisans Market, and for your support for the Community Land Trust Program.

Brave Heart Bowls
Dear Editor: We are extremely grateful to all the community members who made the 10th Annual Brave Heart Bowls fundraiser such a huge success!
To all of you who bought a ticket, thank you. Your attendance at the Bowls fundraiser goes a long way. The money raised from Bowls allows us to provide services to individuals and families living with chronic or terminal illness, recovering from hospitalization, experiencing grief or bereavement or who are at end of life.
We are grateful for each and every one of the talented and generous volunteers. From soup makers to table bussers, they contributed their time to make the event possible. A special thanks to the artists of the Chair-ity live auction: Lois Denherder, Kristina Cranston, DJ Robidou, Tommy Joseph and Mamie Clare; to our wonderful master of ceremonies Rob Woolsey and our musicians, Joshua Houston and Kammie Daniels. We would also like to express our tremendous gratitude for this year’s sponsors: the Hames family and Sea Mart Quality Foods, Silver Bay Seafoods, and White’s Pharmacy and Harry Race Pharmacy and Photo.
This event would not have been possible without the tremendous help and support of the University of Alaska, Southeast and assistant art professor Liz Zacher, along with Robert Rose and many other potters who donated their time and talent to making bowls and helping others to do so.
We offer a whole-hearted thank you to all the local businesses that made Bowls possible this year: the accommodating hosts at Harrigan Centennial Hall; Old Harbor Books for ticket sales; KD Painting LLC for displaying the BHV Banner; Bayview Pub for supplying the event’s bartenders; House of Liquor for donating punch bowls; Northern Sales Company and AC Lakeside for donating bread; Sitka Spruce Catering for lending chaffing dishes; and the Sitka Lutheran Church for lending tablecloths. We are grateful for the generous silent auction donations from Agave Restaurant, the Artist’s Co-Op, Ben Franklin Store, Bev’s Flowers and Gifts, Ben Franklin, Botanika Spa, Brenner’s Fine Clothing and Gifts, The Cellar, Chocolate Moose, Coliseum Theater, Exclusively Handmade Ceramics by Phyllis Hackett, Fishermen’s Eye Gallery, Janet Berlin, Kara Knox, Krisanne Rice, Lisa Teas, Liz Zacher, Mark Sixby, Maryann Calvin, Mountain Miss/Work and Rugged Gear, Murray Pacific, Old Harbor Books, Peter Williams, Robert Rose, Russell’s, Sitka Rose Gallery, Steve Lawrie, Justin Olbrych, Wintersong Soap Company, the Yellow Jersey Bicycle Shop and several anonymous donors.
Finally, we want to thank all those who made delicious soup and desserts this year: Barbara Beach, Tess Heyburn, Jeren Hunt, Tom Brown, Dennis Longstreth, Michelle Friedman, Justin Olbrych, Homeport Eatery, Westmark Sitka, Fredi Young, Peter Bradley, Katia Olivova-Pflipsen, Greta Ryan, Bethany Boyer-Rechlin, Emily Clark, KK Prussian, Dr. Kevin Settles, Kirk Van Winkle, Ruth Finsley, Kenley Jackson, Erika Knox, Wendy Kenney, Bayview Pub, Sherie Mayo, Linda Wilson, Erica Knox, Gaylen Needham, Hailey Barger, Shauna Unger, Bridget Hitchcock, Marilyn Licari and Pam Ash.
On behalf of those we serve, thank you, again, Sitka! See you next year!
