Quilt Raffle

Dear Editor: On Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Elks Lodge we had our drawing for our two prizes for this year for the Sitka Cancer Survivor Society’s quilt raffle.

Kendra Pountney chose the “The Batik Beauty” quilt made and donated by Ocean Wave Quilt Guild members and quilted by Vicki Swanson.

Hannah Green chose the “Moccasins,” made to fit and donated by Linda Janecek.

Congratulations to the winners, and we thank everyone who purchased a raffle ticket and who support us every year. Every donation helps us to give out our mini grants to help those dealing with cancer here in Sitka.

Big thanks also to Sitka Emblem Club for the use of there gambling permit.

Thanks again, Sitka.

‘Fungi’ Canceled

Dear Editor: For reasons unbeknownst to us, the filmmaker canceled our booking Sunday for the documentary “Fantastic Fungi,” requiring the Sitka Film Society and Coliseum to make a quick decision on another show.

Refunds are available to those who purchased tickets already (at 738-0602), or they can redeem their “Fungi” ticket at any film society-sponsored screening in the future. The film society apologizes for any inconvenience. The dogsled doc “Attla” will screen 4:30 p.m. Saturday as advertised, but we subbed in a screening of the cult holiday classic “A Christmas Story” for 4:30 p.m. Sunday (Rated PG), with special priced tickets.
