USCG Children’s Party
Dear Editor: The annual Coast Guard children’s Christmas party was a great success.
It wouldn’t have been possible without our generous contributors, the Air Station Command/Morale Office, the Kukui Command/Morale Office, the Air Station Galley, the First Class Mess, Salty Clicks Photography by Jaime Saladis and Harry Race Pharmacy.
A special thanks to all the people who helped make this possible, especially OS1 Goodson, LT Klakring, DCC Whiting, Mr. Jerry Neel, LT and Mrs. Doug Eberly, and all those who volunteered with the planning, execution and setup. It was truly a joy-filled event to kick off the holiday season.
Thank you and happy holidays.

War on Drugs
Dear Editors: The deep analysis in major press sources is that the war on drugs does not work for addicts. This does not mean that Sitka should relent in the effort to eliminate drugs. We must still try to stop people from smuggling heroin into our town or from cooking meth, etc. Most of us know someone who is crippled by addiction. While it is entirely reasonable to reject drugs, we can not reasonably reject these persons among us who have such a terrible problem.
While we should decriminalize addiction, stopping the practice of jailing people for an illness, we should double down on blocking the availability of illegal drugs. This should go hand in hand with punishing the thefts and other destructive actions addicts commit. I does not make sense to extend care to persons who repay us with crime.

Anonymous Gift
Dear Editor: Last week I came to work and there was a gift waiting for me. It was left anonymously.
I would like to share my most heartfelt thanks to this person who gave me a gift with no regard to needing to be known.
After the year we have had, my family cannot thank you enough. We wish for you the most wonderful Christmas as the one you have helped provide us. God bless you.
