Make Money for City
Dear Editor: I keep watching money going out and no return. There have been a few decisions made in the past five years by city officials and Assembly that have cost this city money due to what I believe is lack of mechanical knowledge. If we have a problem with Blue Lake turbidity (cloudy water) then fix that problem. Why can’t we lower lake levels to the old Blue Lake high water mark and log up to the new high water mark? (Yes, I said log). And see if we can’t get our water quality back.
Then plan on selling this water. (And not for cents, for dollars.) Water is going to be a huge commodity in the lower 48. $18,000,000 is a big number for a secondary water source that will be used once or twice a year for a short period of time. And when does this new equipment become outdated?
There also seems to be a recycling and/or garbage problem in the state of Alaska, Sitka being one of the towns being affected. We pay to barge this product to eastern Washington and have it taken care of. (There’s big bucks in garbage.) What about a waste-to-energy plant and fix a problem.
There’s a nice piece of property out the road that’s named after our mayor that we could put one on. (Or did the city sell all that property off?) It seems there would be government and or state funding to help on this issue. Let’s find ways to make money for a while in Sitka and see what happens.
