Brave Heart Bowls
Dear Editor: We are extremely grateful to all the wonderful community members who made the 11th Annual Brave Heart Bowls fundraiser such a huge success!
To all who bought a ticket, thank you. The money raised from Bowls allows us to provide services to individuals and families living with chronic or terminal illness, recovering from hospitalization, experiencing grief or bereavement or who are at end of life.
We are grateful for each and every one of the talented and generous volunteers. From soup makers to table bussers, they contributed their time to make the event possible. A special thank you to our wonderful Master of Ceremonies, Fire Chief Dave Miller; to the artists of the live auction Elizabeth Zacher, Mark Sixbey, Robert Rose, and Ritch Phillips; to our musicians Mike Litman, Debbie LeVeck, Coral Pendell and Ritch Phillips.
We would also like to express our tremendous gratitude for this year’s sponsors: the Hames family and Sea Mart Quality Foods, and White’s and Harry Race Pharmacy.
This event would not have been possible without the tremendous help and support of the University of Alaska Southeast and assistant art professor Elizabeth Zacher, along with other potters extraordinaire including Robert Rose, Auriella Hughes, Ritch Phillips, Tom Brown, Robert Rose, Kathleen McCrossin, Marge Steward, Ann Valle and Ron McClain, who donated their time and talent to making beautiful, handmade, ceramic bowls.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers who kept this event on its feet, including Emjay, Chris Wilbur, Madison Kosma, Jude Reis, Pam Ash, Ashton Kilgore, Matt Foruria and Mt. Edgecumbe High School students, John Stein, Kathy Kyle, Grace Brooks, Sherie Mayo, Ruth Culp, Aleeta Bauder, Adrian Chiem, Mr. Dave Miller, Olan Moore and Stephanie Staley.
We offer a whole-hearted thank you to all the local businesses that made Bowls possible this year: the accommodating hosts at Odess Theater on the Sitka Fine Arts Campus; Old Harbor Books for ticket sales; Northern Sales Company and AC Lakeside for donating bread; and Westmark Sitka for lending chaffing dishes. We are grateful for the generous silent auction donations from Agave Restaurant, Ben Franklin, Roberta White Photography, Zach LaPerriere, Connie and Marcel LaPerriere, Bonnie Elsensohn, Homeport Eatery, Re:Fresh, Alaska Computer Center, Barb and Norm Richards, Ron McClain, Botanika Spa, The Cellar, Chocolate Moose, Exclusively Handmade Ceramics by Phyllis Hackett, Fisherman’s Eye Gallery, Lisa Teas, Liz Zacher, Mark Sixbey, Mountain Miss/Work and Rugged Gear, Elizabeth Faulkner, Libby Stortz, Alaska Raptor Center, Marg Parsons, Peter Williams, Robert Rose, Russell’s, Spenard Builders Supply, Allen Marine, Amy and Jay Sweeney, Raven’s Isle by Ruth Culp, Abby’s Reflection, Sitka Rose Gallery, Sherie Mayo, Justin Olbrych and Willow Moore, Wintersong Soap Company, Raven Radio, the Yellow Jersey Bicycle Shop and several anonymous donors.
Finally, we want to thank all those who made delicious soup and desserts this year: Max and Bonnie Cottrell, Tess Heyburn, Jeren Hunt, Tom and Susan Brown, Dennis and Jean Longstreth, Olan Moore, Stephanie Staley, Michelle Friedman, Justin Olbrych, the Larkspur, Homeport Eatery, Westmark Sitka, Fredi Young, Susan Padilla, Peter Bradley, Greta Ryan, Ben and Emily Clark, Ellen Frankenstein, Amy Sweeney, Sherie Mayo, Bridget Hitchcock, Brooke Shafer and Paul Norwood.
On behalf of those we serve, thank you, again, Sitka! See you next year!

Tree-Lighting Event
Dear Editor: Sitka Fine Arts Camp would like to thank everyone who helped make the tree-lighting ceremony a success. A special thank you to the Sitka Summer Music Festival, co-host of the event, for keeping us all warm and fed in the beautiful Stevenson Hall.
The tree lighting would not have been possible without Tracy and Mat Turner, Kari Lundgren, Maureen O’Hanlon, Paul Freudenburg, Judi Lehmann, Mike Wild, Eric Dow, Bill Workman and the Winter Fellows. Many thanks to cellist Sarah Swong, Sitka Chamber Choir, the Shape Note singers, and pianist Dave Nicholls for sharing your musical gifts and traditions. We are also grateful for the delicious cider and cookies, so generously provided by Dirk and Trish White, Kari Lundgren, Dan Jones, Tiffany Pearson, Mary Hames and Cyndy Gibson. Happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year.
