Pope Francis
Dear Editor: I love reading the newspaper and today when our paper came I opened it up and I started reading about Pope Francis.
My family are very strong Catholics and I love how you decided to put something so very inspiring in your paper. I really learned about the Pope and I am so glad that someone had enough courage to print a religious related topic in the newspaper. I really want to thank you for showing me that I too can talk about my faith.
Molly Melnick, age 10, Sitka

Museum Thanks
Dear Editor: We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers and folks in our membership who helped out with our museum store sales event and facelift. Special thanks go out to Amy Danielson and Harriet McClain for their zeal and creativity in preparing our museum store displays and making them so inviting for our visitors. Thanks, also, to Pat Glaab, Zach Klein and Keith Chase for all of the arranging, rearranging and moving and more rearranging of museum store wares and displays, recycling runs, tool loaning and errand running that they are always willing to do.
Another ‘‘thanks’’ is in order for the very active board members of the Sitka Historical Society and Museum. They make our jobs here all the more pleasant. Linda Trierschield, Sabra Jenkins, Ernestine Massey and Ron McClain were pivotal in making our space here in the Centennial building brighter, roomier and a very pleasant place to visit over the past month. We appreciate all the hard work, loans of tables, bins, boxes and good energy. Thanks also tour new board members, Judy Johnstone and Tom Conley who have hit the ground running and have been willing to jump right in and help out. And a special thanks goes out to our longtime volunteers Nancy Ricketts, Rosemary Carlton, Kara Knox and Rob Peel, who are a curator’s dream team for their expertise in collections management and engineering.
The biggest thanks, though, goes to our many wonderful members who Pick. Click. Give. to us, contribute to our annual fund drives, attend annual meetings, support and enjoy our programs, stop in to visit and chat and are the backbone of our non-profit organization. We are lucky to have you all in our corner and appreciate your support very much.
Stay tuned. We are looking forward to a wonderful and exciting 2014!
