December 14
A caller in the 2900 block of HPR said a neighbor’s dog was in the yard charging him. When officers arrived the dog was very aggressive toward them. Its owner took custody and said she’d keep it inside for the weekend.
A resident said a caller had asked for her credit card information. She was advised not to give it. Dispatch determined it was a phishing expedition.
At 6:49 p.m. a caller said a vehicle had hit a tree at 901 Lake St. No injuries resulted, the caller said.
Police investigated a 911 call with angry voices in the background and found all was in order.
At 9:37 p.m. a caller said a man was rummaging through a vehicle in Eliason parking lot.
At noon a caller in the 1500 block of HPR reported a man yelling. Officers contacted an intoxicated man and placed him in protective custody.
December 15
At 3 a.m. a 911 caller said her husband was drinking and becoming aggressive. Officers talked to the two and they agreed to separate for the evening.
At 5:22 a.m. a Lifeline alert for a woman, 91, said she hadn’t answered a call. Police found she was doing fine.
At 10:23 a.m. two males in a pickup were reported passing a pipe around in the 4200 block of SMC. Officers stopped a vehicle matching the description and found no one impaired.
At 11:33 a.m. a caller said a tree was leaning on a power line on O’Cain Street. The fire hall was notified.
At 11:34 a.m. callers said a tree had fallen in the 2700 block of SMC and was partially blocking a lane.
At 2:26 p.m. a caller said the Nelson Logging Road had been opened after the FD closed it. An officer waited until a shooter left then reclosed the road.
A caller reported finding a helmet on Indian River Road; at the same time a man reported he’d lost the helmet. He picked it up at the police station.
A caller said he was suicidal. An officer agreed to take him to a hospital.
A caller said a woman was on the floor talking but refusing to go to the door. Police talked to her, and co-workers were to take her to a hospital.
At 10 p.m. a caller said a woman had left a bar carrying her own alcohol and was drinking it. An officer located a woman who seemed to match the description at another establishment but he saw no open bottles on her person.
December 16
Kids were reported climbing on a container off Seward.
A caller reported problems with a friend’s intoxicated husband. He blew a PBT of .324 and was hospitalised.
A caller said a neighbors’ dog, has been barking since the neighbors moved in, and asked police to deal with the issue this time.
Hospital staff asked police to pick up an intoxicated man, who was taken into protective custody at the Sitka jail.
A possibly impaired man in a grungy coat was seen walking over the bridge. He was gone when police checked.
At 8:44 p.m. a resident reported a neighbor’s door propped open for nine hours. Police found nothing amiss.
A brown husky with blue eyes was reported missing. His name is Ace.
At 9:45 p.m. a woman was heard screaming and crying, which turned out to be an argument between a mother and daughter over bedtime.
At 10:30 p.m. a restaurant reported a drunk employee had become violent at a Christmas party. One was arrested.
Sitka Police
Aiden Peterson, 18, was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and an instruction permit violation before 1 a.m. Saturday. Two girls, ages 15 and 17, were cited for minor consuming.
Aftyn Kynaston, 31, was charged Sunday with violating release conditions for allegedly consuming alcohol.
Kevin See, 27, was cited Sunday for driving with a revoked license.
Jennifer Brett, 48, was charged Sunday with assault in the fourth degree and criminal mischief in the fifth, and cited for failing to have a valid operator’s license.
In Court
A charge of violating release conditions was dismissed against David V. Evenson Jr., 27.
Kole A. Kegley, 32, was sentenced to 30 days, with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500 for driving under the influence. His driver’s license was revoked for 90 days. He’s to complete counseling and will be on probation for a year.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched five ambulances after 10 a.m. on Friday, three on Saturday, and one on Sunday.
