Student Interviews
Dear Editor: Recently at Sitka High School, more than 20 employers, business owners, educators and entrepreneurs volunteered their time to provide mock interviews for 48 students. Students had the opportunity for six interview or observation sessions with an array of people and organizations from Sitka. Students spent weeks preparing their resume packets and practicing their interviewing skills. Students, teachers, and administrators from Sitka High School would like to express our deep gratitude to all those who made this possible.
Sitka High School teachers Betty Richter and Ben Clark collaborated with Andrew Gallagher and Jeff Budd from the University of Alaska Southeast to facilitate the entire project.
We had an unprecedented crew of talented and patient interviewers that we would like to thank: Mary Wegner from the Sitka School District; Cliff Richter and Janet Schwartz from the City of Sitka; Lisa Busch from the Sitka Sound Science Center; Crystal Duncan, Allen Puckett, Michael Mausbach and Morgan Denton from the University of Alaska Southeast; Denise Salter from Baranof Island Housing Authority; Eric Majeski and Zak Kirkpatrick from Allen Marine; Yvonne Christner; Caitlin Way from Fisheye Coffee; Doug Helem from Sitka Electric; Sarah Allison from First Bank; Erika Apathy from the Betty Eliason Child Care Center; Jim Clare; Andrew Hames from Sea Mart; and Kateri Richards from SEARHC.
The mock interviews are designed to prepare students for future real-life scenarios and provide them with the tools for success. We hope to continue providing this opportunity for students, which we know would not be possible without the aforementioned participants. Thank you, again, for helping prepare our students for their futures!

Library Book Sale
Dear Editor: The Friends of Sitka Public Library recently held its annual book sale. After buying pizza for our many volunteers, we learned we had raised $1,500 from the generosity of book-loving Sitkans. The board of the Friends has voted to award $750 grants to two organizations welcoming, nourishing, and growing future library patrons – Babies and Books and Imagination Library. Nothing is more essential to a child’s learning and library success than books and reading in the home. Thank you to Old Harbor for being more than ready to fulfill book orders!
We had so much help in hauling books, organizing books, selling books, and stashing books for next year. Thank you to board members, Mt. Edgecumbe students, Friends of the Library, citizens, and conscripted family members for your labor. We apologize in advance for any hard-working volunteers and stellar human beings we have forgotten to include in our thank you list.
