‘The Nutcracker’
Dear Editor: Fireweed Dance Guild recently presented The Nutcracker here in Sitka. It was a resounding success and I wanted to thank everyone who helped with the production.
First, thanks to the performers for putting their time and energy into rehearsals and performances – without you there would be no show. Thanks to all the families and friends who helped get kids to rehearsals and babysat so moms could be in the show. Thanks to all our volunteers – especially Carole Knuth, Carol Hughey, Julien Naylor, Peter Apathy, Marnie Everson, Wendy Alderson and Ali Hosford.
Thanks to everyone who helped the week of the show including dressing room monitors, laundry queens, tickets sellers, and the Amethyst and Sapphire Ballet classes. Thanks to Elle Campbell and her student crew – you were amazing. Thanks to our choreographers who brought the magic to life: Jo DiGennaro DeBell Nancy Neel, Laura Turcott.
Thanks to our guests, Sitka Cirque and the New Archangel Dancers – we love collaborating with you. And many thanks to all the volunteer artists over the years who have made tutus, backdrops, props and furniture. We love your creations and still use them to this day.
It’s such a big effort that we only perform every other year. Join us in 2023 when we plan to present the Alaska Nutcracker.
