Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

December 27

At 2:12 a.m. a caller reported people were hanging out in the parking lot of apartments off Sawmill Creek, and in a second call at 2:41 a.m. said people appeared to be looking into parked vehicles.

A man who lives nearby reported suspicious people on the Cross Trail.

A wallet found in the 200 block of Lincoln Street was turned in, and the owner called shortly afterward to report it missing. The wallet and owner were reunited.

A dog wearing a license was reported running at large on the Cross Trail. A message was left with the owner.

At 12:42 p.m. Sitka police assisted the Juneau judicial service in serving papers.

A caller reported people were hanging out in the parking lot of apartments off Sawmill Creek. Officers advised the caller of options.

A wallet found at Eliason Harbor was returned to the owner.

At 6:22 p.m. a Samsung tablet was found smashed at Jeff Davis Street and SMC. Police are holding it at the station.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 1:26 p.m., 8:11 p.m. and 9:47 p.m. Monday.

Sabrina Jeter, 18, was charged with violating conditions of release.

 

In Court

Richard L. Sam Jr., 40, on an August 21 charge of assault in the fourth degree, recklessly injure, was sentenced to 360 days with 90 suspended, and fined $5,000, suspended. On a charge of violating conditions of release he was sentenced to 90 days with 60 suspended. The charges are misdemeanors, and the sentences are to be served consecutively. He is to complete a batterers intervention or domestic violence intervention program, pay costs, and receive treatment. He will be on probation until Dec. 22, 2024. A charge of assault in the first degree, serious injury, weapon, was dismissed by the prosecution. On a June 15 misdemeanor charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fifth degree he was sentenced to 180 days, with 120 suspended, and on a March 22 misdemeanor charge of violating conditions of release he was sentenced to five days. He is to get treatment and pay restitution. Sentences are consecutive, and he will be on probation until Dec. 22, 2024. Charges of assault in the fourth degree, cause fear of injury, on March 23; and violating conditions of release for a felony on July 14 were dismissed by the prosecution.

Anastasia Smith, 51, of Cape Neddick, Maine, was found guilty of refusing to submit to a chemical test on May 27, and was sentenced to 33 days with 30 suspended. She was fined $1,500. Her driver’s license was revoked for 90 days, and she is to use an ignition interlock device for six months after regaining the privilege to drive. She will be on probation until Dec. 22, 2022.

Jennifer Kaye Hayes, 42, of Kenai, on a Sept. 29 charge of assault in the  fourth degree, recklessly injure, was sentenced to 220 days with all but the time served suspended. She was fined $3,000, suspended. She is to make restitution, receive a behavioral health assessment and follow recommendations. She will be on probation until Dec. 22, 2024. Charges of assault in the third degree, cause fear of injury with a weapon; interfering with a report of a domestic violence crime; and criminal mischief in the fifth degree were dismissed by the prosecution.

 

Grand Jury

A Sitka grand jury returned indictments Dec. 23 against Herbert W. Sheldon Jr., 47, on two charges; and against Juneau residents Fischer M. Tresham, 23, and Dezaree L. Willard, 39, on drug charges.

Herbert W. Sheldon Jr. was charged with assault in the third degree Dec. 18 near Angoon, recklessly placing someone in imminent serious injury from a firearm, a class C felony; and making a terroristic threat in the second degree, also a class C felony. A summons was issued for Jan. 3, 2022, in Superior Court in Sitka.

Dezaree Willard was indicted on two class A felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree (heroin and fentanyl), and one MICS count in the third degree (meth), a class B felony, on Sept. 24 in Juneau. Fischer M. Tresham was indicted on one count of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree (heroin), a class A felony, on Sept. 21 at Sitka; two of attempted misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree (heroin and fentanyl), class B felony, on Sept. 24; and one of attempted MICS in the third degree (meth) on Sept. 24 in Sitka. A summons was issued for Jan. 3, at the Superior Court in Sitka.
