The following calls were recorded as of 8 a.m. today.
December 28
At 1:44 a.m. an animal problem was reported in the 700 block of A Street.
A pickup driver with a boat and trailer in tow slid on black ice in the Starrigavan boat launch parking area and ran into the rock wall after the truck and boat trailer jackknifed. The driver wasn’t injured but the front end of the truck was damaged.
At 8:35 a.m. two vehicles collided because of black ice at HPR and Viking Way. Vehicle damage resulted but no injuries, police said. The two drivers exchanged information.
At 10 a.m., a driver slid on black ice in the church parking lot at the head of Shotgun Alley, and managed to jump out of the truck as it went over the edge of the parking lot and down the hillside. The driver was not injured, police said. A photo of the truck is on page 1.
An animal call came in at 12:12 p.m. from Baranof Elementary School.
Property was reported found at Price Street and Burkhart Street.
At 3:10 p.m. callers reported icy conditions at Edgecumbe Drive and Mills Street. Police notified the city Public Works Department.
Police assisted the adult probation office in locating persons.
December 29
At 4:24 a.m. a driver on Katlian Street was told a vehicle taillight was out.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Wednesday.
Coast Guard
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka went on two medevac calls Wednesday.
In the first, a 75-year-old man with a blood clot was flown from Hoonah to Sitka for treatment. The helicopter took off at 4:10 p.m., and was back in Sitka with the patient by 5:45 p.m.
The same helicopter took off again at 7:07 p.m. to pick up a 14-month-old boy in respiratory distress in Haines. He was transferred to a Guardian medevac flight at 9:23 p.m., and flown elsewhere for further medical care.
