Softball Clinic Thanks

Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Lady Wolves softball program I would like to extend our thanks to Rebecca Austyn for her work in organizing the recent softball clinic held at Sitka High School.

Rebecca invited two coaches from Seattle University to instruct girls from elementary to senior high in softball fundamentals. The clinicians were outstanding. She also was able to raise funds within the community and mileage was donated to limit the cost to the girls. I am not privy to all who donated, but I can reach out to Raven’s Peek B&B, the Hames Corporation, Silver Bay Seafood, Coastal Excavation, Sitka Community Hospital, Sitka Bottling, Schmolck Mechanical, and the SHS athletic department for help in getting the clinicians here and happy.

Of course, living in Southeast Alaska things can go wrong with travel and when the visiting staff was late in arriving, Lesa Way, Alyssia Popoi and Kyle Young stepped up to give the younger girls a great softball experience in their own way.

These things do not go well without great participants and the girls were outstanding from the youngest to the most experienced. Thanks to those unnamed for however they were involved in making this event a great success.

Respectfully yours,

Bob Potrzuski. Sitka High Softball

Sitka Robberies

Dear Editor: What is happening in our town. With people trying to steal little girls.

Plus the many home robberies taking place and the police do not have a clue. Even boats being robbed.

Sitka is turning into a town of crime. I’ve lived in my home for 56 years and never been robbed until a few months ago. Yes, I was asleep but on my hide-a-bed. Plus had my cars ransacked a few times.

Where is all this going to end? People are leaving Sitka like rats off a sinking ship.

It’s about time we Sitkans don’t have to lock everything.

Rev. Joyce Chandler, Sitka
