Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
December 2
At 1 a.m. an officer checked out a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Smith Street and found nothing criminal.
Officers checked Starrigavan boat launch throughout the day. Thieves have been breaking into vehicles parked there.
A merchant in the 300 block of Lincoln Street complained a vehicle that’s frequently parked there takes up two parking spaces.
At 9:13 a.m. a caller reported a threatening note in the center of the highway, forcing other vehicles into the road edge. The driver was gone when officers arrived.
Throughout the day officers and Good Samaritans helped drivers who had slid off roadways, gotten stuck or otherwise were having trouble because of the snow.
At 12:19 p.m. a bus was reported sideways in the 4600 block of HPR.
At 1:08 p.m. a Marine Street resident said a neighbor had threatened to hit a relative and a dog with a shovel. An officer advised the resident of options.
At 5:27 p.m. a caller reported the road to the Performing Arts Center was icy. City road crews were advised.
A resident turned in a bike found on his property. Police informed the bike’s owner, who claimed it.
At 6:27 p.m. a pickup was reported in the oncoming lane in the 3300 block of HPR, forcing other vehicles to go around. It was not in the area when officers arrived.
A taxi driver turned in a backpack that had been left in the cab. The owner was contacted.
At 8:46 p.m. a driver reported hitting another vehicle while trying to park on Anna Drive. An officer talked to both vehicle owners.
December 3
At 12:07 a.m. an officer helped a vehicle get out of a driveway in the 1500 block of SMC.
At 7:27 a.m. two dogs were reported running at large on Monastery and Kinkaid streets, but the owner called back five minutes later to report the two were now inside.
At 8:26 a.m. a caller in the 2500 block of SMC said a bear had raided his trash can at 4 a.m.
