COVID Team Thanks

Dear Editor: I want to publicly commend the professional team in Sitka who have tirelessly worked together to provide COVID immunizations efficiently to the community of Sitka. This takes excellent leadership, skilled personnel and a dedicated hard-working talented staff.

On Tuesday evening, the Sentinel reported that “some 727” citizens in Sitka have been immunized. Outstanding.

When I read about the rest of the country I am discouraged that so many other communities are spending their time and energy trying to come up with a plan for prioritization and other details, meanwhile keeping their stocks of vaccine on ice – rather than rapidly immunizing their citizens. Nationally, in over two weeks, only 10% of the distributed vaccine has been administered in the United States. Sitka, in contrast, has demonstrated outstanding leadership and cooperation to protect our citizens.

I am sure there are many responsible for this incredible effort and I want to praise and thank them all for successfully organizing and conducting this massive vaccination program.

You are all heroes and heroines.

Susan S. Carlson, M.D., Sitka
