Contribution

Dear Editor: the Sitka Babies and Books Committee wishes to express our appreciation to the Sitka Woman’s Club for its generous annual contribution to our organization. This contribution from the Sitka Woman’s Club, which is dedicated to serving the community of Sitka with a focus on women and children helps our organization continue in its mission to ensure that Sitka children become lifelong readers by providing books to children, and parent education and support during the first three years of a child’s life.

Playground Thanks

Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Community Playground Volunteer Group, I would like to thank Gretchen Stockel who is part of our group for organizing the Thanksgiving Pie Sale. Thank you to everyone who made pies and desserts and to everyone who bought and ate them! I would also like to thank Amber Hulon from Sitka Community Hospital who organized a very successful Turkey Trot. Thank you to everyone who helped out with the Trot and to everyone who participated. It was a great way to begin the day. Together, the fundraisers raised $5,000 that will go towards the Crescent Harbor playground.

Every household has just received a donation letter asking you to support the playground. Please help us build a new playground that is accessible to all, safe, low maintenance, and one that honors Sitka’s natural surroundings and cultural diversity. Any amount helps!

If you want to get more involved, come to our next meeting on 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Centennial Hall. Check us out on Facebook or our website: www.sitkacommunityplay.wix.com/home. Our focus is on fundraising, but soon we will shift our focus to building the playground. We would like to build it this summer with hopes of the whole community coming out to help, similar to a barn raising!

Thank you Sitka, for all your support.
