Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
December 4
Birds were reported spreading garbage around the 1500 block of Edgecumbe Drive. The renters were to be told to pick up the debris.
A charge of criminal mischief is to be forwarded to the ADA.
A caller said he found screws behind his tires and his house door open. He had a suspect, but no proof.
A man fell at a grocery store and was taken to the hospital.
Possible animal cruelty was reported.
At 5 p.m. Mt. Edgecumbe students said an older man, in his 30s, was tailing them near the campus, speeding up when they walked faster, stopping when they stopped, and flashing headlights before speeding off.
At 6:15 p.m. a vehicle struck a pedestrian in the 900 block of HPR, but no injuries were visible.
At 9:50 p.m. two men reportedly exited a trailer on Katlian and lit up a meth pipe, and one urinated outside. Police investigated.
At 11:36 p.m. a caller said a driver straddling the center line and headed toward the bridge, nearly hit the caller.
December 5
An Anna Drive resident reported multiple break-ins to his home, and asked to talk to an officer.
A resident with a foot injury was picked up by an ambulance.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received five calls for ambulances Wednesday and two before noon today.
In Court
David B. Fletcher, 52, of Diamond, Washington, was sentenced to 30 days, with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500, for driving under the influence. His license is revoked for 90 days; he is eligible to serve time through house arrest; is to complete counseling; and will be on probation for one year.
Arthur J. Kinnan, 68, was sentenced to 60 days, suspended, for violating a stalking order. He is to be on probation for two years. He is to have no contact with the animal control officer, except ongoing animal control emergency purposes, and in the ACO’s official capacity.
Randi L. Castillo, 26, was sentenced to 90 days, suspended, for each of two counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree, and five days for violating release conditions. She is to follow treatment recommendations, which may include up to three months inpatient care. Dismissed were charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree and four counts of violating conditions of release. On a charge of violating probation conditions, she is to serve 15 days and her probation is extended by a year.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter launched Tuesday evening to help a vessel taking on water, with two people aboard, near Ketchikan. About 20 minutes into the flight, a good Samaritan vessel arrived, and the helicopter’s help was no longer needed, the Coast Guard said.
