Death by Meth?
Dear Editor: What the heck is meth? Darn if I know. I don’t know whether you smoke it, sniff it, eat it, or shoot it. It must be terrible, destructive stuff. Can you die from it? This town is really, really concerned.
Recently I’ve heard that a subcommittee of the Health Summit is specifically addressing “The Meth Problem”. But what, pray tell, is it – this “meth?” What are the symptoms? Please educate me.
How might I as a vintage citizen help? If I see suspicious behavior, what should I do? Who might I call? How might neighborhoods rally in this small town and share concerns and support? Let’s assume parents and friends, teachers and co workers, neighbors and acquaintances care. Care lots.
Please make easy-to-understand information available in old-fashioned hard copy in old-fashioned, easy-to-access folders in a clearly defined area or at the front desk of Kettleson Library. Please don’t tell me to “just go to the web, (dumb bunny).” Might the Sentinel do something on the topic? Not just the kids need to know. I do.

Thanks to Arts Council
Dear Editor: I am once again very impressed with the support shown for public education by the community of Sitka. Recently, at Blatchley Middle School, we created an after-school arts program.
We approached the Sitka Arts Council with a request for funding and they quickly and generously gave a $500 scholarship. What a wonderful community we live in!
The students and staff of BMS greatly appreciate their generosity. It is money well spent.

Beautiful Sitka
Dear Editor: It was a real pleasure to visit your beautiful city. We were especially interested in the Russian influence and how wonderfully clean your city is. We hope to visit again sometime.
