Cottage Neighborhood

Dear Editor: The Rasmuson Foundation does a great deal of good work in Sitka. Their financial support has been essential for the success of the Sitka Community Land Trust. This month’s award is the fourth grant which the Rasmuson Foundation has given the land trust since 2015 with all the funds always going to program costs.

With their support we established the Trust and designed the S’us’ Héeni Sháak Cottage neighborhood. With their support we hired local contractors to do the site development and install the underground utilities on the first half of ‘‘the old city shops.’’ And now, with continuing support from the Rasmuson Foundation, we will hire more local contractors to do the site work and utility installation for the next seven homes. These Rasmuson grants have lowered the cost of each home by roughly $30,000. This is a direct benefit to the citizens who buy the homes.

The Sitka Community Land Trust is deeply grateful for the support of the Rasmuson Foundation.
