Dear Editor: When honorable American citizens are shot down in the streets with impunity for exercising their Constitutional right to assemble and express their views through peaceful protest, the moment has come for each of us – regardless of political affiliation – to choose whether we stand with American democracy, or with those determined to destroy it.
Sitkans for Peace and Democracy invites community members to join us in expressing our outrage and deep sorrow at the murders of Alex Pretti and Renee Good by federal immigration agents, Saturday, January 31, noon to 1 p.m., at the roundabout. Bring a sign, or just bring your presence.
The power to end the violent takeover of our communities is in the hands of Republican members of Congress. In addition to joining the vigil, I urge you to contact members of the Alaska Congressional Delegation and demand that they act to end this assault on our democracy and the American people.
