Dear Editor: Thank you to the commercial fishing vessels and their captains and crews who gave to Sitka Conservation Society’s Fish to Schools Donation drive this year. By donating wild, Alaskan fish you have made a tangible investment in the wellbeing of Sitka’s kids.
Big thanks also to longtime program champions Sitka Sound Seafood (North Pacific Seafoods Inc.) and the Seafood Producers Cooperative for their support of the drive. From receiving fishermen’s donations, to processing and storing fish, to making your own seafood donations, your contributions are invaluable.
Fish to Schools supports SCS’s mission because it connects to what we care about: healthy kids, healthy fisheries, and a healthy Tongass. When we invest in local food systems, we help young people understand where their food comes from and why it matters.
We encourage students and families to watch out for Fish to School days at the Sitka School District and Mt. Edgecumbe High School. If you are interested in donating to Fish to Schools, you are welcome to contact chandler@sitkawild.org or 907-738-0357.
Chandler O’Connell,
Sitka Conservation Society
