Education Funding

Posted

Dear Editor: $52,831! WOW!  That’s the total of all PFDs paid out of the Alaska Permananet Fund – 1982-2024 to each individual Alaskan resident from 1982-2024. A gift! Yes, it is the people’s money, but still a gift.   And keep in mind Alaskans pay nearly the lowest personal taxes in the USA.  (yes, that is a fact!)

The Legislature has come together and stated with their votes that more money is needed to keep our public schools running. Our governor threatens vetoes if his personal ideas about public schools are not all obeyed by the Legislature. And he still proposes outrageously high PFD checks.

It’s time to act! Even if we Alaskans have to receive a lower PFD, let’s support proper funding for our schools.  Koyuk, Shishmaref and Angoon could care less about charter schools.

I plead with all of you – connect with Gov. Dunleavy and persuade him to do the right thing for our children and our communities. Let’s fund the public schools.
