End-of-Life Care

Posted

Dear Editor: On behalf of Bill Fredrickson’s family, we wish to thank Dr. Robert Hunter for Bill’s end-of-life care. We can’t thank nurse Beckey and PT Valorie from Home Care for their care and compassion to us, and their professional treatment coming and making our home calls.

When it came time to go to the hospital, we transitioned to the hospital very easily at the Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center, and were given a helpful booklet concerning end-of-life by Abbey Cohen, Social Services clinician.

We were awarded a large quiet room, with an extra bed for family if needed, the nursing staff including Rose and Allison and all who were wonderful kept Bill very comfortable, and listened to us as a family. There was no limit on the hours families can stay in the room with the patient. SEARHC provided a comfort cart with refreshments which was a wonderful treat which all his visitors and family enjoyed. A big thanks again to all the SEARHC staff, for their love, support, care, and respect.

We also want to thank Trudy from Prewitt Funeral Home who always goes the extra mile for all in Sitka during the difficult days that a family faces.
