Farrell Swain
Dies at 83
Farrell Glenn Swain, longtime Sitka resident died April 27 at his home surrounded by his family.
Farrell was born on March 17, 1933, in Fortuna, California, where he grew up and worked in the logging industry with his father. Later he moved his wife and children to Oregon where he logged with Don Brown prior to moving to Sitka in 1966 with Mud Bay Logging Company. He also worked for Silver Bay logging before he retired.
Farrell adored his family, loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and prospecting.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, in 2009. He is survived by his children: Glenda Quintana and her husband Vidal, of Sitka; Farrell Swain Jr. of Novato, California; Gayle Hagen and her husband Tim, of Sitka; Joseph Swain and his wife Lori of Sitka; and JoAnn Demmert and her husband Wade of Kingston, Washington; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At his request, no services will be held.
