Women in the Fisheries
Dear Editor: Sitka Maritime Heritage Society recently held our annual meeting and discussion panel. This year, we chose “Women in the Fisheries” as our discussion topic, with panelists Marie Laws, Linda Danner, Pat Kehoe, Linda Behnken, Tele Aadsen and Coral Pendell. These ladies were fantastic! SMHS would like to thank each of them for sharing their personal fishing stories with the audience.
We would also like to thank Eric Jordan for his time and skills as discussion facilitator, promoter, and story teller in his own right. Each year, Eric works with SMHS on the discussion panel, and we truly appreciate his efforts. Other thanks go to Sarah Jordan for helping with decorations, Janine Holzman for the loan of her beautiful quilts, Sitka Conservation Society, Raven Radio, The Daily Sitka Sentinel, and the SMHS board of directors.
SMHS would also like to thank the 100-plus audience members who attended our event. Some of you shared your own stories, and carried the dialogue beyond the event, which is always our hoped-for outcome. Thank you, Sitka.

No More Gray
Dear Editor: I am following with interest the discussion about revitalization of our downtown and I might also suggest all of Sitka. If I was running for an office one of my main platforms would be: No More Gray in Sitka.
There is not much we can do about the sky or ocean; heck, even the rock we live on is called Sitka Graywacke. But we can sure do something about our homes, buildings and cars. May I offer the suggestion, Sitka: begin a campaign to encourage painting our homes and buildings brighter – and buying colorful cars in the future. Just a thought. Thank you.
