Police Blotter
Sitka Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today.
February 7
A woman said she’d been a victim of fraud.
A caller said her car had broken down in the middle of Lake and Lincoln streets. However, as soon as an officer was dispatched the car started.
A caller on Anna Drive said his house had been broken into again.
At 5:48 p.m. kids were reported riding bikes on Swan Lake. An officer told them it was unsafe.
The library reported the theft of a DVD player.
At 10 p.m. a caller said a man and woman on Harvest Way were arguing and items were being thrown. Officers determined it was non-criminal.
At 10:15 p.m. a caller reported finding a medium-sized dog wandering downtown. An officer took it to what was believed to be its home but the resident said the dog wasn’t his. It was taken next to the animal shelter, where the owner claimed it.
At 10:46 p.m. a caller said a friend had an altered mental state due to a high level of intoxication. She was taken to the hospital.
At 11:48 p.m. a 911 caller in the 100 block of Lincoln Street reported hearing a woman screaming. An officer talked to people in the area but no one had heard a woman in distress.
February 8
At 1:28 a.m. a caller said ATVs were being driven near Harbor Mountain Road. Police saw no ATVs.
Officers spoke to a juvenile four-wheeling without a helmet and warned the parents it wasn’t safe.
At 1 p.m. a caller said a driver in a pickup swerved into oncoming traffic and nearly hit him and his children. He said the driver was texting.
A woman asked police to call her if they came into contact with her brother, who hadn’t been heard from for two weeks.
A man said someone broke into his house, moved items around, fed his goldfish, and left behind a line of bullets. Officers were advised.
At 3:41 p.m. a 911 caller said a man in a restaurant was acting aggressively and yelling. Officers told the man he shouldn’t yell. The restaurant declined to get a trespass order.
A woman called from a grocery store parking lot and said she’d accidentally locked her kids in her car. Police unlocked the car.
At 9:36 p.m. a caller on Edgecumbe Drive said a woman walking a large dog had just walked through the yard and night need assistance. The woman couldn’t answer any questions, the caller said. Officers didn’t find anyone matching the description.
At 9:55 p.m. an officer found two dogs RAL on Georgeson Loop. One, a boxer, wouldn’t move away from in front of the patrol car so was loaded up. The little dog led the way to a nearby home, where the resident said the boxer was in heat and that’s why she took off. Both dogs were taken back inside the home.
February 9
A store owner complained about a vehicle taking up two spots in front of her store. The vehicle owner said it would be moved immediately.
A Marine Street resident said an eagle had been in the backyard for two days, possibly with an injured wing. The Raptor Center was called.
At 2:16 p.m. a Peterson Street caller said snow had been plowed into the middle of the crosswalk.
At 3 p.m. an “unsafe pothole” was reported at Finn Alley and Lincoln Street. Officers was advised.
Sitka Police
Amanda R. Skultka, 33, was charged Saturday night with assault in the third degree, domestic violence, and assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Tanya Ensweiler, 47, was arrested Sunday on a warrant for failing to appear.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received three ambulances calls Friday, six Saturday and three Sunday.
At 7:18 p.m. Friday a fire truck was sent to Blatchley on a false alarm.
At 5:50 p.m. Saturday a fire truck was sent to 413 Baranof Street to put out a chimney fire. Firefighters used ChimFex to extinguish the fire, and no damage was reported.
Coast Guard
The Coast Guard Air Station Sitka dispatched three helicopters on medical emergencies Saturday. In the calls:
– a 31-year-old man with a compound fibia and tibia fractures was flown from Haines to Juneau.
– a 77-year-old woman with heart problems was taken from Skagway to Juneau.
– a 25-year-old woman having a blood-sugar-related emergency was flown from Angoon to Sitka.
