Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

February 10

At 2:29 a.m. an officer talked to two individuals taking photos at Whale Park and advised them of park hours.

A man who lives near Cross Trail reported items had been broken. Police advised him of his options.

At 10:08 a.m. a man reported what he said was criminal mischief in the 2800 block of HPR. Officers found no evidence of criminal activity.

At 12:26 p.m. a caller reported a small black and white dog was running at large near Mollar Drive. The animal protection officer returned it to its owner.

At 1:31 p.m. police assisted the Child Advocacy Center in a matter.

At 1:51 a.m. a resident on Hollywood Way reported finding damage to her parked vehicle, apparently in a hit and run.

At 4:16 p.m. a vehicle was reported speeding at Kaagwaantaan and Katlian.

At 4:36 p.m. ATV and motorcycle riders were reported on the Kimsham ball field. Officers could see where the vehicles had been, and advised a parent riding ATVs on the field wasn’t allowed.

At 5:57 p.m. two people were reported exchanging words near Market Center. Police are investigating.

At 6:04 p.m. a caller said an intoxicated man was in the 1200 block of SMC. He was gone when officers arrived.

At 6;09 p.m. a caller said a man she didn’t know was smoking in her driveway, on DeGroff Street. He was gone when officers arrived.

At 7:32 p.m. a caller reported an ice chest had been left near the Crescent Harbor restrooms. Officers checked it out.

At 7:52 p.m. a caller said someone had dropped off a PlayStation at a hotel, and drugs might be involved. 

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Thursday.

Cory L. King, 45, was charged Thursday with violating a protective order.

 

In Court

Matthew D. Linn, 24, of Chicago, Illinois, on a charge of harassment in the first degree, a class A misdemeanor, was sentenced to 270 days with 235 days suspended. The unsuspended 45 days are to be converted to 340 hours of community service. He is to pay restitution,and will be on probation until Feb. 10, 2026.

Sabrina L. Jeter, 18, on a charge of attempting to hinder prosecution or apprehension, a class A misdemeanor, was sentenced to 90 days with all but the time served suspended. She was fined $500 with $250 suspended, and will be on probation for one year. Charges of violating conditions of release and driving in violation of an instruction permit were dismissed.

Cipriano Monreal Guerrero, 45, on a charge of driving under the influence was sentenced to 120 days with 100 suspended, and fined $4,000 with $1,000 suspended. He is to complete  a year.

Dayton F. Cropper, 22, of Anchorage, on a charge of driving under the influence was sentenced to 90 days with 87 suspended and fined $2,000 with $500 suspended. He is to complete recommended treatment, and will be on probation one year. His driver’s license was revoked for 90 days, and he’s to use an ignition interlock device for six months after that.

Tamara L. Brownell, 55, on a charge of driving under the influence was fined $2,000 with $500 suspended and sentenced to 90 days with 87 suspended. Her license was revoked for 90 days and she is to use an ignition interlock device for six months after that. She will be on probation for one year.

Miguel Daniel Garcia, 24, on a January charge of violating conditions of release was sentenced to 20 days, suspended. On a charge of driving with a canceled, revoked or suspended license he was fined $500 with $250 suspended. He will be on probation one year. Charges of driving with a canceled, revoked or suspended license; violating conditions of release; and,in 2019, driving under the influence were dismissed.

Morgan Kress Doubleday, 74, on a Fish and Game charge in October 2019 of fishing for sablefish in a closed period was fined $3,000 with $1,500 suspended. On a charge in December 2019 of providing false information in a logbook while commercial fishing he was fined $3,000, with $1,500 suspended. He is to be on probation one year. An October 2019 charge of groundfish possession and landing in closed waters was dismissed.
