Little Library Opening

Dear Editor: Book Tracks hosted a successful Little Library celebration on Jan. 15, thanks to the generous donations of community members.

Children of all ages came to receive a free book, do fun crafts, and take-home some snacks. The event theme was “color,” so children were able to paint seashells, do watercolor painting, and create a suncatcher using colorful tissue paper. The event was hosted in the Rasmuson Building at Sitka Fine Arts Camp, so special thanks to Roger Schmidt and Drew Sherman for donating the space and setting up tables/chairs.

The SFAC is generously allowing another Little Library to go on the campus grounds, right outside of the Rasmuson Building (where 3-5 Preschool and Wooch.een Head Start are located).

Thank you to everyone who came to the event. Further thanks go to Kari Sagel and Peggy Fedoroff for helping with coordination/crafts, Sea Mart for covering the cost of snacks, and the Crosset Fund for covering the cost of books. Elizabeth Schafer and Sawmill Creek Apartments each have Little Libaries currently in operation, so special thanks to them for increasing the message of Book Tracks and literacy opportunities in our community.
