Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

February 1

At 3:23 a.m. Public Works said a vehicle in the road was hindering a snow plow from clearing the 600 block of Monastery. The vehicle was moved.

At 8:29 a.m. a two-vehicle accident was reported at Eliason Loop and Vitskari Street. No injuries were reported, and damage to the vehicles is being assessed.

At 9:15 p.m. a caller reported seeing what appeared to be a chimney fire as he rode a bus past Peterson Avenue and Edgecumbe Drive. Police found no chimney fires.

At 11:44 a.m. a man was reported sleeping in a doorway in the 200 block of Katlian. The man was awake when officers arrived and went on his way.

At 12:35 p.m. a caller reported an alarm was going off in a vehicle parked near SMC and Lake Street. Officers found no vehicles with alarms sounding.

At 4 p.m. a driver reported another driver was swerving into the opposite lane on O’Connell Bridge.

A caller said someone had rear-ended his wife’s vehicle at Seward and Lake streets, causing damage but no injuries. Police opened a case on the incident.

At 7:33 p.m. a caller said a driver going very slowly on the O’Connell Bridge had nearly struck his vehicle. Officers located the driver, who told them she was being cautious.

February 2

At 4:16 a.m. people were reported at Whale Park. Officers found they were grilling steaks in celebration of the Chinese New Year. Officers advised them of park hours.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Monday.

At 9:19 a.m. Monday a chimney fire was reported at Peterson Avenue and Edgecumbe Drive but it was a false alarm.
