Cruise Tourism

Dear Editor: I received two unsolicited texts from Safeguard Sitka.

February 13 text: “MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD! Local activists are proposing Sitka sharply lower the legal limit on the number of cruise tourists every year. Do you support their plan to cut down on cruise tourism? Reply yes, no, or Undecided.”

February 18 text: “YOUR RESPONSE IS MISSING! Cruise tourism brings in millions of dollars in tax revenue to fund Sitka schools and parks and recreation. Would you vote to restrict cruise tourism? Reply Yes, No, or Undecided.”

Activists are “people who campaign to bring about political or social change.” New Oxford American Dictionary.

Seems to us that Safeguard Sitka are the “activists” as they campaigning in CAPS.  The “activists” identified in the initial text, are community members simply gathering signatures for a potential ballot initiative at this point in time. Period.
