The following calls were recorded as of 8 a.m. today.

February 17

A 5hp engine was reported stolen off a boat at Thomsen Harbor.

A vehicle was reported parked on the sidewalk at Baranof and DeGroff. It left before officers arrived.

Two vehicles were damaged in an accident in 1511 block of SMC.

A man and woman were reported going into the restroom at ANB Harbor. Police got the man to leave.

A woman was reported to have stolen cigarettes from a liquor store. A case has been started.

February 18

A driver was reported to have left a gas station without paying.

At 5:51 p.m. a caller said a dog tried to attack a guard dog on Baranof Street. Officers were advised.

At 11:14 p.m. a caller reported a fight at a downtown bar. The alleged combatants were gone when officers arrived.

February 19

A possible drug violation was reported at the ferry terminal at 11:55 a.m.

At 1:24 p.m. a man was reported spreading feces inside a tractor at the ferry terminal.

A possibly intoxicated driver was reported in the 1800 block of HPR. Officers found the driver wasn’t intoxicated.

February 20

At 2:19 p.m. a man was reported staggering into the roadway at 2:19 p.m. in the 3200 block of HPR. He was gone when officers arrived.

At 7:19 p.m. a man and woman were reported arguing in a parking lot in the 800 block of HPR. They were gone when officers arrived.

A caller complained a taxi company didn’t have its fares posted in the cab. Police talked to the taxi company owners.

 

Sitka Police

Jack Joseph, 33, was arranged on a warrant Sunday on charges of failure to report to his probation officers on a 2021 charge of theft.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls Friday, seven on Saturday, two on Sunday and three on Monday, along with a false alarm fire call.  

 

Coast Guard

Coast Guard Air Station Sitka received three requests for medevacs over the weekend, but only two turned out to be needed.

On Friday, a medevac was requested for a 70-year-old Haines man with sepsis. The helicopter took off at 2:21 p.m. but the call was canceled when a Guardian flight arrived to take the man for care elsewhere.

However, the helicopter was needed in Haines for a second patient, a 63-year-old woman with meningitis. The copter crew flew to Haines at 3:23 p.m., picked up the patient, left Haines at 4:21 p.m., and flew back to Sitka, arriving around 6:25 p.m. The woman was taken to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center.

On Saturday the Air Station received a call at 7:18 p.m. to pick up a 70-year-old Wrangell man with a femur separation fracture. He was flown to Sitka for care, arriving around 7:23 p.m., the Coast Guard said.
