Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

February 18

A man reported backing into a car in a private parking lot. He and the other car owner were to self-report.

A health facility reported a patient was in an unsafe situation. She agreed to emergency services.

A park ranger turned in a check. The owner was to pick it up.

A man said someone had been stealing items from his home. He was advised of his options.

A woman said her underage son was being blackmailed over explicit photos he’d sent.

At 7:49 p.m. a 911 caller said a man was threatening to shoot himself. Officers spoke to the man, and were investigating.

February 19

A wallet and two cellphones found in the police property room were to be returned.

At 1:21 p.m. the odor of propane was reported at a downtown building.

A man reported two kayaks were stolen from the 1700 block of SMC.

At 4:37 p.m. a caller said two parents in an apparent altered mental state were staring at rocks on Indian River Road, their children nearby. They were gone when officers arrived.

At 10:56 p.m. a caller reported an intoxicated man standing at Monastery and DeGroff streets. The man told officers he was waiting for a ride.

February 20

Claims of trespassing and theft were reported at 11:17 a.m. on Cedar Beach Road. Those involved were advised of their options.

At 11:52 a.m. a caller said two dogs had been in the Indian River Road area for two hours.

A caller said her neighbor had been yelling at her. She was given her options.

At 9:20 p.m. a car was found running, its doors open, at Edgecumbe and Kashevarof streets. Officers spoke to a woman, who said she was airing out the car and had fallen asleep.

February 21

At 5:08 p.m. a broken water pipe was reported in the100 block of Wolff Drive. The city water department and residents were advised.

At 9 a.m. a caller reported a tree removal company had gone to the wrong address and chopped down a maple street that resident and his late wife had planted 20 years before. An officer is to follow  up on the matter.

At 11:17 a.m. a vehicle was reported to have run into a tree near the Starrigavan boat launch. One person was taken to the hospital, and two declined transportation. The accident is under investigation.

At 3:31 p.m. a woman said she’d found her door open, but nothing appeared to be missing.

February 22

A man called from out of town to say the house caretaker had allowed a woman to be there, but another woman was there and was intoxicated, and the caller wanted her out.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Friday, seven on Saturday, two on Sunday and four on Monday.

At 11:22 a.m. Monday an ambulance was called to the Starrigavan boat launch in response to a traffic accident. One person was taken to the hospital.

 

Sitka Police

Leisha Trani, 30, was charged Sunday with assault in the fourth degree.

Nemani Tawanavanua, 35, was charged with driving under the influence Sunday.

Jason Keith was charged Monday with violating conditions of release on a charge of assault in the fourth degree.

 

Coast Guard

The Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter late Sunday medevacked a 17-year-old girl from Hoonah to Sitka, after she reportedly broke her hip.
