The following calls were recorded as of 8 a.m. today.
February 21
At 9 p.m. a caller said a bike he’d left overnight in the 200 block of Katlian had been stolen.
At 3:15 p.m. a welfare check was requested on a man in a tent on the Japonski Island side of the O’Connell Bridge. He was found to be fine.
At 3:30 p.m. trash was reported littering an area in the 3800 block of HPR. A nearby business was to clean it up.
At 10:27 p.m. a caller said a husky was trying to get into a chicken coop on Kaagwaantaan Street. The dog was gone when police arrived.
February 22
At 6:50 a.m. a cell phone found near the O’Connell Bridge was turned in at the police station, and placed in the lost property drawer.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received one ambulance call Tuesday.
Fire Calls
At 7 p.m. Tuesday Sitka Fire Department sent an engine and two firefighters to 310 Cascade Street in response to a fire in a yard. The resident said he was burning his long-johns as part of what he called a “Norwegian religious ceremony.” He put out the fire himself with buckets of water, and a firefighter waited at the scene until the blaze was out.
The resident was told the fire hall needs to be notified ahead of time about planned burns.
Grand Jury
A Sitka grand jury indicted three people this month.
Sean A. Barclay, 38, was indicted Feb. 9 on a felony class B charge of interference with official proceedings; a class C felony of stalking in the first degree; a class B misdemeanor of solicitation in the fourth degree; and a class B misdemeanor of violating conditions of release. He is accused of trying to influence a witness between Oct. 10, 2022, and Jan. 31, 2023, placing someone in fear of death or injury, and soliciting someone to cause physical injury to another person.
Walter A. Johnson, 45, was indicted Jan. 9, on two counts of assault in the third degree, a class C felony; and one count of assault in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor. All charges were on Jan. 21.
On Feb.16, Sarah R. Smith, 45, was indicted on a class C felony charge of tampering with physical evidence, on Jan. 1.
In Court
Timothy James Plummer, 46, on a charge of driving under the influence was sentenced Feb. 15 to 90 days in jail with 87 days suspended, and fined $2,000 with $500 suspended. He is to complete a behavioral health assessment and follow recommendations. His license was revoked for 90 days and he will be on probation for one year.
Vivian J. Wright, 29, of Hoonah, on an April 24, 2022, charge of assault in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor, was sentenced Feb. 15 to 90 days with 80 days suspended, and fined $1,000, suspended. On a charge of disorderly conduct – creating a hazard condition, a class B misdemeanor, she was sentenced to 10 days and fined $250; and on a charge of resisting/interfering with arrest, a class A misdemeanor, she was sentenced to 90 days with 80 suspended and fined $500 with $250 suspended. She will be on probation for one year. Charges of drunk person on licensed premises and violating conditions of release were dismissed by the prosecution.
The probation of Donald L. Vanasdoll, 58, was revoked, reimposed and extended on Feb. 15 after he was found to have violated conditions of probation by subsequent law violations.
