Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

February 23

A caller reported a dispute with a property manager. He was advised of his options.

A resident in the 800 block of Lincoln Street said he’d been out of town and returned to find the front of his vehicle had been hit and badly damaged. Police opened a case file.

A woman with some mental issues was reported making accusations and threats. Officers talked with her, and she returned home.

At 2:14 p.m. a caller said a dog had been left in a truck without water. Its owner was contacted.

A resident called from out of town to report receiving harassing phone calls and images.

Two sets of mail keys and a black leather wallet were turned in. Police have not been able to locate the owners.

A possibly intoxicated man was reported stumbling in the 400 block of Monastery Street. He was gone when officers arrived.

A woman requested protective services. Police advised her of her options.

At 5:41 p.m. several people reported hearing what sounded like gunshots in the area of the Totem Park visitors center.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Wednesday.

At 7 p.m. a fire call came in from an apartment on Burkhart Drive, where a plastic container on a stove had caught fire. Smoke damage resulted, and the apartment was ventilated.

 

Sitka Police

Erica Karras, 42, was charged Wednesday with assault in the third degree, domestic violence.

 

In Court

Jack L. Joseph, 32, on an April 13, 2021, charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class A misdemeanor, was sentenced to 10 days, and on a charge of violating conditions of release, a class B misdemeanor, he was sentenced to five days. He was ordered to pay $500 for the cost of appointed counsel. Dismissed were four 2020 charges of driving with a license canceled, revoked or suspended; and four of violating conditions of release. Sentencing was suspended on a Jan. 7, 2021, charge of theft in the second degree, a class C felony, and he was placed on probation for four years. He is to obtain a behavioral health assessment and complete recommendations; pay $500 for the cost of appointed counsel; forfeit all items seized during the investigation; and serve 60 days, receiving credit for time served. Dismissed were six 2021 charges of violating conditions of release.
