Family Fiesta
Dear Editor: Last Saturday, we celebrated SAFV’s 18th Annual Family Fiesta at the ANB Founders Hall. With the help of many volunteers, this fundraiser turned out to be very successful. Our thanks go to Sea Mart, Sitka Sound Seafoods and Mt. Edgecumbe High School kitchen for sponsoring the event; ANB Camp 1 and ANS Camp 4 for allowing us to rent their brand-new hall and kitchen; and to the Daily Sitka Sentinel, KCAW, KIFW and Sitka Soup for public service announcements.
We express our gratitude to Karin Mullins and her kitchen crew, Bridget Hitchcock, Grace Brooks, Charlie Morgan, Michelle Mahoney and Kathy Branch, who prepared yummy food and presented it with a smile; to the SitNiks Jeanne Stolberg, Kris Fulton, Patty Skannes, John Fulton, Mike Litman and Ritch Phillips, who played beautiful music; Sharyn and John Ferrick for providing their sound system; Doug Osborne for being a delightful and dedicated auctioneer; Mary Levesque and Karen Boyer for selling tickets at the door; Dave Levesque and Larry Edwards for setting up the hall; Mt. Edgecumbe High School students Danielle Anaruk, Flora Demientieff, Treva Esparza and Deirdre Creed, and Jesuit Volunteers Heather Hanson and Alli Gabbert for helping with the auction; the Sweeney family for making paper flowers as table decorations for weeks ahead of the event; and to Steve Warren who helped us keep our sanity with his support in the kitchen. Last, but not least, we thank all the dessert donors, particularly Sarah Ferrency and family, and those who so generously placed their bids. We apologize to everyone we might have forgotten.
We count ourselves fortunate for the long-lasting and generous support we receive from the community. This is essential to fulfill our mission of providing empowerment-based safety and advocacy services for victims and survivors of interpersonal violence while promoting a community of nonviolence and respect. Thanks, again, and gunalcheesh!
