Police Blotter
Sitka Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today.
February 24
A shoplifter was reported at a grocery store at 7:21 a.m. The store staff didn’t want to pursue charges.
Public works was told a manhole cover was off at 400 SMC.
At 8:48 a.m. a caller said a woman on Harbor Drive might need help. Officers didn’t find her.
Harbors asked police to stand by while a harbor user was contacted about his behavior the previous night.
A store said a man put on a black leather jacket and walked out without paying. When officers found him he admitted taking the jacket. Charges will be forwarded.
A woman said a dog joined her while she was walking at the Kimsham ballfield. The ACO picked up the dog and returned it to its owner.
At noon two people were seen trying to break into mailboxes, using hammers and a crowbar, outside a building on Smith Street. Police contacted four people, including two matching the description and two others in a nearby apartment. Charges of criminal mischief and misconduct involving a controlled substance will be forwarded to the assistant district attorney.
A GPS tracker was reported missing from the Pioneers Home.
A Ziploc bag containing ID was found behind the Senior Center.
A juvenile who had run away went to police on her own. The Office of Children’s Services was advised.
A man said a black Lab turned up at his Arrowhead Street house. He said he’d take it to the shelter.
Two marine batteries were reported stolen from a boat on Hollywood Way, in the last three months.
A resident reported losing a purse that looks like a mouse.
At 8:13 p.m. a caller said a vehicle slid off the road and into a ditch in the 1900 block of SMC.
At 8:16 p.m. hospital staff said a patient left, against medical advice. The patient was found and given a ride back to the hospital.
