Freezing Funds
Dear Editor: I have been closely following what has been happening in Washington, D.C., in regards to the freezing of funds.
Today, I called our Alaskan delegation and I wanted to share with you what I left as a message for them. I’ve also been involved with RESULTS, which is “a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. We believe poverty is not inevitable, and that our voices have power. Together, we move lawmakers to build a more just and equitable world. We envision a world beyond poverty and the oppression that causes it.”
But today, what you read below, is what I’m currently focused on. If you want to call them, or the White House, this is their contact information.
Sen. Dan Sullivan (202) 224-3004
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (202) 224-6665
Rep. Nick Begich (202) 225-5765
White House (202) 456-1111
After introducing myself and giving my contact info, and telling Sen. Murkowski that I appreciate her efforts...
‘‘I am your constituent and I’m calling about what is happening in our nation’s capital. The issues I’m concerned about are legion but what most boil down to is that Congress’s mandate to appropriate money is being (illegally) ignored and the power of the purse that it has by right of the Constitution is being taken from them. Do not let the President do this to you! Please take action to stop this insanity! So many people, both in our nation and globally, are already being harmed. This is not a partisan issue, it’s a democratic one. Our democratic process is under attack. And now I’ve just read in the NYT that DOGE has full access to the federal payment system! This could affect me as someone collecting Social Security. Please respond to let me know what steps you are taking to maintain/re-establish the separation of powers, and protect my essential income.’’
Thank you,
Mim McConnell, Sitka

Public Servants
Dear Editor: First, I would like to state that I did not vote for President Trump. I am not a member of the Republican Party.
For the past six years, I have belonged to the Constitution Party. But, I am very happy and elated to see someone cleaning out the mess in D.C.  For years, parading as “Public Servants,” the D.C. federal employees, and unelected officials have acted as if they were royalty, treating the common working American as a serf and a cow to be endlessly milked. They have lied, manipulated, deceived, stolen, taken bribes, given money to their friends, at our expense.
Yesterday, the top treasury official, David A. Lebryk, resigned. Did you see what he is accused of doing?  Did your Congress person take money from Big Pharma?
The corruption in D.C. runs very deep. Many of these people need to be fired, re-moved, asked to resign, and then spend some time in a soup kitchen line, and eat some humble pie. Some of them may eventually get a vacation on the island of Cuba.
