Stop Fluoridation
Dear Editor: Who would bother to dispute a really good thing?
For over the 70 years, since the first addition of artificial fluoridation chemicals to drinking water, credible objections to water fluoridation have existed. Today reasonable objections to water fluoridation are continuing to increase. Dental decay proves to be no less in water fluoridated areas and evidence of the harm of bio-accumulating fluoride poison mounts every year.
Erin Brockovich wrote, “The use of the public drinking water system to dispense any substance to achieve a medical result is abhorrent and fundamentally wrong.”
The CDC lowered the recommended upper limits for water fluoridation levels in 2011 by 42 percent and justified this action by stating children were being overdosed. CDC also currently posts online that parents may want to use non-fluoridated water for baby formula to lower risks of dental fluorosis in their children. Even at a newer lower dose, our children are still being overdosed by water fluoridation according to the CDC. Recent credible research points to fluoridated water lowering the IQ of children whose mothers’ were exposed to fluoride during pregnancy. A pending lawsuit against the EPA for not being protective of public health due to the neurotoxicity of fluoride was allowed to continue in December 2017 by U.S. District Court Judge Edward Chen, a federal judge in San Francisco. It is long past time to end water fluoridation!
Help Sitka to join the many non-water fluoridating Alaskan communities including: Juneau, Fairbanks, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Craig, Hooper Bay, many Alaskan villages, Seward, Whittier, Nilnilchik, Soldotna, Homer, Cordova, Valdez, Haines, Glennallen, Wasilla and others. Tell the Sitka Assembly that you want them to stop fluoridating Sitka’s drinking water. Attend the Sitka Assembly meeting on Feb. 13, 6 p.m., Centennial Hall, or write to all members at assembly@cityofsitka.org.
