February 9, 2023, Police Blotter

The following calls were recorded as of 8 a.m. today.

February 8

At 5:33 a.m. backpacks were found outside the library, apparently left there temporarily.

At 6:28 a.m. a tree was reported down across the roadway near Whale Park, block traffic. Officers did traffic control until DOT arrived.

At 9:30 a.m. a black Lab was reported running at large in the 700 block of Lake Street. Officers were advised.

An animal call came in at 11:08 a.m. from Merrill Street.

A welfare check was requested at 12:58 p.m. on Granite Creek Road. All was well.

At 3:28 p.m. a father and his children who’d gone into the Crescent Harbor restrooms were berated by an apparently intoxicated man. Police told the man to move on.

A report of the sexual abuse of a minor was put under investigation.

At 5:57 p.m. a welfare check was requested on Austin Street.

February 9

At 12:40 a.m. a disturbance was reported in the 1800 block of HPR where men had been drinking. One was taken to the hospital and another was found to be rifling through merchandise at a nearby store.

 

Sitka Police

Mary E. Duncan, 40, of Angoon was found to have violated conditions of release in a Jan. 26 case of assault in the fourth degree and resisting arrest.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received one ambulance call and an auto alarm fire call Wednesday, and one ambulance call early this morning.

 

Wildlife Troopers

Frank Kyle, 47, was cited Feb. 6 by for allegedly taking undersize commercial troll king salmon. Alaska Wildlife Troopers said they seized two king salmon that were less than 28 inches in length and had been offloaded to a processor.
