Dear Editor: Last week, Sitka was gifted an amazing American Documentary and Animation Film Festival. Debbie Miller organized everything, dedicating enormous time and energy over many months (also utilizing the work and expertise of Teddy Grouya, founder, director and programmer for the largest documentary festival in the West, held each March in Palm Springs, California, for the past 16 years). Sitka is a new chapter for this festival, so, Sitkans are seeing the highlights from the big festival and docs that particularly resonate with Alaskans. Thank you, Debbie!
Thank you for gracing Sitka with these wonderfully meaningful and beautiful films. We hosted eight film directors in Sitka, from as far away as Mexico and New York City. The themes ranged from storytelling through music and art, the environment and nature, profiles in courage, and triumphs of wildlife and science.
Mark your calendars for next year! The 2027 film festival is already set for October 8, 9 and 10!
