On what would have been his 87th birthday, Fulton Perry Thompson will be honored at the Sitka Pioneers Home Tuesday with a “Dress Up Funky on Fulton Day.”

Fulton, who had lived at the Sitka Pioneers Home since May 27, 2004, was known for both his friendliness and the wacky costumes he sometimes wore, much to his public’s amusement.
“I may be a wimp, nerd, an extrovert, flamboyant and eccentric; however, I am a nice guy,” he was quoted as saying on May 2, 2005.
He died Jan. 19, 2015.
Fulton was born June 9, 1924, in Washington, D.C., the only child of Mildred King and John Perry Thompson.
After high school, he attended two years of college, and also served in the U.S. Air Force.
He also told many tales of his days as a taxi driver in Washington, D.C.
He moved to Fairbanks in 1989, and then to the Sitka Pioneers Home in 2004.
He is survived by one son, John Thompson, and two grandchildren.
